Some very sad news hit the sports world today when it was revealed that both of the parents of former quarterback Doug Flutie passed away today. Making matters all the more tragic is that both his mother and father died within an hour of each other. Flutie’s father Dick, had been ill for quite some time and succumbed to a heart attack he suffered in the hospital. Roughly an hour later, his mother Joan also died after she suffered a heart attack. The two had been married for 56 years.
Flutie broke the news on his Facebook account, expressing grief while detailing the sequencing of events and thanking everyone for condolences and support.

Doug Flutie won the NCAA Heisman Trophy at Boston College and later went on to have successful careers in the NFL, Canadian Football League and the now defunct United States Football League. He currently serves as broadcaster for Notre Dame football on NBC.
