The teacher, who has yet to be identified, claimed to have been stabbed in the throat by a masked man yelling that the attack “was for Daesh.” Daesh is one of the widely used names for ISIS or the Islamic State. The teacher was hospitalized with nonlife-threatening injuries. Anti-terrorism authorities began looking into the incident the morning following the teachers claims.

The attacker was described as having worn a balaclava and reportedly used a sharp item or box cutter, that had already been in the classroom, to slash the teacher. The teacher was in class in the Paris suburb of Aubervilliers when the alleged attack took place, according to Le Parisien (a French paper) but no students were in the classroom at the time.

The incident is still under investigation and the circumstances regarding the alleged box cutter is still unclear. France remains under a state of emergency after the November 13 attacks by extremists linked to the Islamic State group that killed 130 people.
