Producer-songwriter Dr. Luke has been in hot water over the last few months after being accused of sexual assault by pop star Kesha. The negativity was amplified after a judge denied Kesha’s attempt at being released from her exclusive contract with Dr. Luke. Apparently, Kesha is not the only one who is at odds with the producer. Last month, singer Kelly Clarkson gave her opinion via Twitter, letting the world know that she has nothing nice to say about him.
Numerous other celebrities showed their support for Kesha and shared their displeasure with Dr. Luke since the story was made public, but Clarkson’s stance has struck a chord considering she had worked closely with him in the past, as he co-wrote and produced her 2004 hits “Since U Been Gone,” “Behind These Hazel Eyes,” and her 2009 single “I Do Not Hook Up.” In an interview with Australia’s KIIS 1065, Clarkson was asked about her tweet and she opened up about her past experiences with Dr. Luke.
I don’t know specifically what happened in their situation. Obviously, I wasn’t in the room. But I can remark on his character and, unfortunately, when you have that poor of character so many artists don’t like you.
Musically it’s been really hard for me because he will just lie to people. And it makes the artist look bad. And he’s kind of difficult to work with, kind of demeaning.
She did clarify that her experiences with him have been nothing like what he is being accused of by Kesha.
He never did anything like that with me. I don’t know that part.
Kelly Clarkson even went as far as to say she was blackmailed by her label to work with him.
I only worked with him — even the last time I worked with him — I only worked with him because literally I got blackmailed by my label. They were like, ‘We won’t put your album out if you don’t do this.’
