Chris Brown may not always get things right when it comes to women and voicing his opinion, but this time he’s on the receiving end of some unjust criticism.
Best Coast vocalist Bethany Cosentino took to Twitter to call out Breezy for his Top 20 hit,“Back To Sleep,” claiming he’s “perpetuating rape culture.” In her rant, Cosentino specifically targets the hook of the single, inquiring “how” the singing of the words were “okay.”
“Just let me rock, f-ck you back to sleep girl. Don’t say a word no, don’t you talk. Just hold on tight to me girl. F-ck you back to sleep girl rock you back. You already know how I feel about Chris Brown,” Cosentino tweeted, “But WHY/HOW are those lyrics ok? Cool, a song that perpetuates rape culture being a hit.”
"just let me rock, fuck you back to sleep girl, don't say a word no, girl don't you talk" are lyrics to the chorus of a VERY popular song

Cosentino may have missed the memo. The song is Brown singing to a woman he’s obviously already had consensual sex with and is asking her to brace herself for round two. Cosentino didn’t interpret that nor did she stop her criticism of Brown. She also targeted the A&R team who approved the song and publications such as Billboard who gave the track a glowing review.
“How about this for a review: singing about f-cking a girl back to sleep/telling her don’t say a word is singing about rape + it’s disgusting.”
This isn't just about that idiot tho- the fact that's a song in popular culture that some A&R person was like "this is great" saddens me

.@billboard's review of that song "excels as a quality addition to his catalog’s stellar collection of panty-dropping and baby-making songs"

Last thing then I'm out- it's an issue even if someone else was singing those lyrics. Rape culture is everywhere + it's a BIG problem.

Responding to criticism of her position, Cosentino wrote: “4 those of you that don’t understand the definition of “consensual sex” – it’s not TELLING a woman yr gonna wake her up 2 f-ck her. BYE”.
Ok I'm for real done with Twitter for today- but this is the last I'll say on the subject. ✌🏼️🌹 pic.twitter.com/Y8oiINVykR

Chris Brown and his team have yet to respond.
