Kembe X dropped off his single “Talk Back” back in November 2015. It followed the in-depth thought process of “Buried Alive.” Both songs were strong presentations of what we could expect from the Illinois artist; making now the time to have a listen to his Talk Back album.
Kembe’s discovery of music came from his mom playing gospel music and his dad playing artists like Hootie & The Blowfish. “What got me [into music] was more so writing poetry,” Kembe said in 2015. “I first started making music when I was like 15 and nobody knew I was doing it.”
Conscious in his delivery, Kembe’s Talk Back album requires undivided attention. His choice of production is not too broad and doesn’t outshine his rhyming ability. He lets his lyrical ability and structure take the lead throughout the body of work.
Laced with 14 tracks, Kembe is a rebel with his own cause. “Treating rap like school,” he delivers messages about America, the system, and much more. There’s no room for radio play here, but there is plenty of room left for discussion.
