1. What does Davi$ stand for? Davi$ is a family name. I chose to use it as my artist name to represent everything I come from and stand for- Family! I wouldn’t be who I am today if it wasn’t for everyone in the Davis family.
2. Your single Raw is off the charts can you tell me what inspired you to make that single? The inspiration came from my mentor Jay aka Green Man Chan (GMC), telling me that I need a song for the club that people could dance to but also kinda silly to catch people’s attention. I went straight to the drawing board; it was tough at first because I’m used to making straight hip hop chill tracks, and this put me up to a challenge I’ve never done before. Next thing you know, I had RAW, and the rest is history. It was going to be “Sushi” at first, but “RAW” had a better ring to it. (Just a Lil side note.)
3. Where are you from? I’m from Louisville, Ky. Home of the Cardinals, Jack Harlow, Bryson Tiller, D’Angelo Russell, just to do a little name dropping.
4. What is Mind Food? Are you the first artist on this label? Is it your label? Mind Food is something my cousin and I came up with making a song one day. We wanted to start a company but didn’t know exactly what to do. So we named it “Mind Food” to cover any and everything we want to do. We, as a people, don’t feed our minds enough with the right substance; I’m guilty of it. I feel like once people hear the name, they feel inspired to do something positive. It very magnetic I’ve noticed. I am the only artist as of now, but we are growing very quickly. And yes, Mind Food Entertainment is a music label.
5. What other artist do you see yourself compared to? I don’t compare myself to anyone personally. I think I sound different than anyone out right now or the past. Now I am influenced by a lot of artists, and you can hear it in a lot of my tracks. But I’ll let the fans figure out who as they listen more to my music.
6. What’s next for Davi$? There’s no limit to what I can do, so honestly, I can’t say what’s next for me. I just let God guide me in the direction that’s best for my life, and I know regardless success is at the end of that road.
7. Are you in the studio morning, noon and night? What inspires you to write your music or come up with concepts? I’m in the studio as much as I can get in. I work almost seven days a week, so making studio time is very tough, but I manage to make it work to give the people what they need. I’m usually inspired by everything, people I talk to, movies, shows, and videos I watch. My family is a big inspiration. My little brother Boss Marino keeps me on my toes because he’s consistently dropping heat. So after listening to him, it’s like I need to make some magic and keep up, you know. The concepts come as they do. I never know what the song is about until I actually start writing or freestyling random rhymes and then just go from there. It’s never perfect, but it always works.
