How Jake Moritt’s Career Risks Made Him One of Hip-Hop’s Youngest Top Executives

Making switches, taking drastic steps and making life-changing moves are everyday things in life, but the question about these things is if one is ever truly ready to do them. Jake Moritt’s story has always been about making decisions, knowing what is best for him at every given time and sticking to his guns in the direction he thinks his life should go.

Jake Moritt has traversed multiple spheres from a young age, and even as an adult, he has continued exploring and trying out new things. The 24-year old entertainment executive from Los Angeles, California, grew up with entertainment surrounding him. His early influences set him firmly on the entertainment path, and at the age of eight, he got the chance to prove himself. He performed in George Clooney and Steven Soderbergh’s HBO Mock TV drama, Unscripted, which earned him some recognition and a feature in the LA Times as the show’s breakout star. He started getting multiple offers from studios to play a major role in different films, but he declined and chose to “just be a kid” instead.

Growing up, Jake decided he still wanted to be a part of the entertainment industry, where he started working behind the camera on various film projects. He worked on The CW’s Significant Mother and worked as a production assistant on shows like ABC’s The Rookie, Apple+’s The Morning Show. He rose to assistant director and began to explore the process of budgeting shows, all before the age of 21.

When he was 21, he line produced his first movie for Showtime and continued working as a line producer for Hallmark and Lifetime networks under Ninth House Films. In 2018, he got an intern position at Proper Loud under Mams Taylor to kill time in between films, where he switched up his story to become the Jake Moritt the music industry has grown to cherish and value. He fell in love with artist management and everything about the music industry. Even though he was becoming a recognized name in the film industry, he believed he was made for the music world, and he pivoted immediately. It was a new uncharted course for him, but his resilience and motivation helped him stay on course and succeed.

Despite being an intern at Proper Loud, he began to bring in new clients. His mentorship under Mams Taylor connected him with many industry leaders that helped him secure some important relationships in the business. Jake started closing deals with notable brands like Fashion Nova, Fenty x Savage, Dominos, Toshiba and many others. His astronomical growth positioned him for consultancy gigs which he did for many independent record labels in addition to his roster of artists.

Jake Moritt was instrumental in Proper Loud’s growth as he contributed to an increase in clients, revenue, exposure and chartings. In 2021, 24-year old Jake Moritt became Vice President at Proper Loud and consequently one of the youngest executives in the music industry. “Jake has blown me away with his work ethic, maturity and pure drive. He is destined for great things,” Mams Taylor, Proper Loud CEO, said.

Jake’s journey has been one of making the right decisions and sticking with them. He now manages top talents like 12x Platinum and Grammy Award-winning producer Diego Ave, world-renowned actor/musician/comedian King Bach, multi-platinum songwriter Ivory Scott, and influencers Will Got the Juice and OliviaG0ld of GoldJuice, amongst others.

Jake’s motivation is to keep breaking every set limit and ceilings put in place and project Proper Loud to the highest possible level in the entertainment industry. “The joy I find of managing talent is that there is no ceiling for growth – there is no cap. In most jobs, there is always an endpoint, but with management, there is infinite room for expanding a brand and new ways to achieve the next steps,” Jake said.
