A$AP Relli confronted A$AP Rocky in court on Thursday during the rapper’s ongoing assault trial in Los Angeles, according to Rolling Stone reporter Nancy Dillon. The tense moment occurred while Rocky’s attorney, Joe Tacopina, was questioning Relli, prompting the latter to express frustration over alleged threats he’s been receiving.
“Why are you showing my Instagram? I’m already getting death threats,” Relli exclaimed. “[People are] threatening my daughter—like, what’s going on here?…Because you’re saying I’m an extortionist. You’re putting my whole life on display…This is getting really annoying. What does this have to do with the case?”
As the judge called a recess, Relli continued his outburst, telling the judge he was upset that Rocky was staring at him during the proceedings.
Rocky faces two counts of assault with a semiautomatic firearm stemming from an alleged November 2021 incident in which he is accused of firing shots at Relli. He has pleaded not guilty and previously rejected a plea deal that would have resulted in 180 days in county jail, three years probation, and a suspended seven-year prison sentence. If convicted, he could face up to 24 years behind bars.
Tacopina argued in his opening statement that Rocky never intended to harm Relli, claiming the shots fired were only warnings to break up a fight between Relli and A$AP Illz. He also stated that while Rocky legally owns firearms in California, he only carried a prop gun that night “to scare off attackers.”
Thursday’s hearing also marked the first public courtroom appearance by Rocky’s wife, Rihanna. Tacopina had previously suggested it was unlikely she would attend in person. Earlier in the week, the couple was spotted dining together in Los Angeles, making headlines ahead of the trial.
