Gotta love the exclusiveness of the music industry. When you’re popping and hot, fellow elite artists get familiar. They open their doors to invite collaboration and synergy. Cute.
Any who fans of SZA and Chappell Roan might be getting the dream collaboration they didn’t know they needed after the latter artist expressed mutual admiration, sparking excitement about a potential future team-up.
Check this, the buzz began when SZA (real name Solána Rowe) reacted to a clip of Roan naming her as her ideal collaborator. The R&B superstar shared the moment on a Story on the Gram on March 26, writing:
“[I] actually didn’t believe this quote when I saw it written til I saw it come out her mouth just now CAUSE DEADASS SAME. Pls we must.”
But wait, this isn’t the first time SZA has publicly praised Roan. Last year, after watching the breakout artist’s lucha libre-inspired Lollapalooza set, she gushed, “She makes me wanna keep making new music n art forever.” She also left an enthusiastic “I LOVE HER” comment under a Rolling Stone post about Roan’s Governors Ball performance.
Both artists have been dominating the music scene in their own right. SZA, fresh off the massive success of her Grammy-winning album SOS (2022) and its record-breaking single “Kill Bill,” has solidified her place as one of R&B’s most innovative voices. Meanwhile, Chappell Roan—known for her bold, theatrical pop style—has quickly risen to fame with hits like “Good Luck, Babe!” and her viral “Pink Pony Club.”
In a recent interview with Jennifer Hudson, SZA highlighted Roan’s songwriting alongside Taylor Swift and Olivia Rodrigo, saying:
“There’s a lot of deep storytelling that really reflects their human experience.”
Interestingly, SZA also revealed her desire to collaborate with Swift, recalling a conversation at the Grammys:
“It’s so interesting to me. Every time she walks up to me or approaches me, I’m just like, ‘All right, this is happening, because that’s fully Taylor Swift.’ I think what I mentioned was that I would love to write with her and love to build some things together.
