SZA Takes a Stand: R&B Star Confronts Teen Using Whippets, Slams Dangerous Trend

SZA is once again putting her influence to powerful use, this time to protect the youth from a disturbing trend.

Get this, on Tuesday, May 20th, the Grammy-winning singer revealed through her Instagram Story that she intervened when she spotted a teenager using whippets in an In-N-Out drive-thru line.

“Literally talked a CHILD into throwing away his whippet drugs in exchange for a picture/video at the in n out drive through,” SZA wrote. “Sad but if I can stop this s–t for even a second imma try. Once again, these drugs are clearly marketed to CHILDREN. Really need America to do better man.”

It’s important to note that health officials have long sounded the alarm on nitrous oxide misuse. The National Institutes of Health warns that frequent use of the gas can lead to severe, long-lasting nerve damage. Meanwhile, the Cleveland Clinic reports that nitrous oxide can deplete the body’s vitamin B12, potentially triggering both physical and mental health complications.

SZA’s concern isn’t new. Back in September 2024, she used her X (formerly Twitter) platform to challenge the normalization and accessibility of these substances, particularly their availability in stores and the way they’re marketed toward Black youth.

“Sorry to be old n annoying but.. Is no one gonna talk about how galaxy gas came out of no where and is being MASS marketed to black children? The government is doing NOTHING ? .. since when are we selling whip its at the store ???? Somebody protect the children,” she posted.
