Eddie Murphy is standing by his 2007 comedy Norbit and says much of the heat it caught at the time was less about the film itself and more about people simply hating on him. “I love Norbit,” Murphy told Speedy Morman during his appearance on 360 With Speedy.

The film, which he co-wrote with his late brother Charlie Murphy, dropped right after Eddie had earned an Oscar nomination for his role in Dreamgirls. That timing, he says, sparked a wave of critics questioning his acting credibility, with some even hinting that his Academy nod might not have been warranted.

Despite the noise, Murphy says he has no regrets and remains proud of creating Norbit with his brother. “…We think ‘Norbit’ is funny,” he said, making it clear the project still holds a special place for him.

During the conversation, Murphy and Morman took a trip through the comedy legend’s career highs while also poking fun at what some call his “worst films.” That included talk about his Razzie nods for Worst Actor, Worst Actress, and even Actor of the Decade. Murphy laughed it off, saying, “I was like, ‘Come on now, that sht ain’t that bad. They was just hating on a ngga.’”
