Gloria Velez, the legendary recording artist, dancer, model, and actress, has added “bestselling author” to her list of accomplishments. Her debut autobiography, “When Silence Screamed: The Girl Who Knew Too Much,” has already achieved the number one spot on Amazon’s Survival Biographies chart. The book is an intimate look into a life lived both in the spotlight and in the shadows, chronicling Gloria’s journey of transforming pain into purpose and finding a path to healing.

In a recent interview with The Source, Velez described the book as an act of liberation. “Releasing this book is freedom. My voice is finally on paper uncut, unedited, and undeniable. No one can twist my words now,” she said. She dedicated the book to those who are unable to share their own stories, saying, “This is for those who can’t speak, for those who are no longer here to speak, for those who are too scared to speak, and for those still fighting to overcome. My highs, my lows, my truth it’s all here, and the right people will finally see me.”

An emotional excerpt from the book titled “Groomed in Plain Sight” offers a glimpse into its raw and unfiltered content. In it, Gloria writes, “Let me be clear: it is never the child’s fault. A child should not have to protect themselves from predatory behavior. That responsibility lies with adults to be mature, respectful, and protective, not manipulative.” She concludes by stating her motivation is not for “attention” or “clout,” but because it is her life and her journey, and she is telling her story loudly, clearly, and without shame.
