In a recent sit-down interview on Melyssa Ford’s “Hot & Bothered” podcast, Grammy-winning singer Mýa opened up about her decision to de-prioritize marriage and children in her life. The artist, who has maintained her popularity across generations, explained that focusing on a family has “never been” her primary goal.
Mýa revealed that her perspective on traditional marriage was heavily influenced by her parents’ divorce and her father’s infidelity. “I’ve witnessed a divorce between my parents. I’ve witnessed all kinds of things. My father is a very attractive man. I’ve witnessed a lot of things,” she said. As a child, she admitted she was “very fearful” of the idea of a “white wedding dress” and instead found herself escaping into her work.
The singer’s remarks shed light on her viral “marriage” to herself in 2020, which caused a stir online when she posted a photo of her wedding dress on Valentine’s Day. At the time, many fans attempted to identify her new “husband.” Mýa clarified that the act was not a statement against men but was instead a gesture of self-care and self-love. “It’s really about becoming your best self and making sure that you’re leveling up in all aspects of your life,” she said, reflecting on her journey after a toxic relationship.
Mýa’s candid conversation offers insight into her life choices, stating that her work has been her primary focus and that her path is what she considers to be “what it looks like.”
