Born Lorenzo Dechalus in the Bronx on this day in 1968, Lord Jamar of the legendary Brand Nubian crew has remained a strong presence in Hip Hop both on the mic and as a cultural critic.
He came onto the scene in 1988 alongside Grand Puba and Sadat X, with Brand Nubian earning worldwide recognition through five classic group albums. Jamar also dropped his own solo project, The 5% Album, in 2006, which was met with critical acclaim.
These days, he continues to spark conversation with his outspoken views on the Yanahmeen Godcast, co-hosted with Rah Digga.
