TMZ suggests that Hip Hop plays a role in Boston Marathon bombing.

We are often glued to our televisions or refreshing news feeds in the wake of tragic events like those in Boston. While some of us fear for our lives or for those we hold close to us in those cities, news coverage obsesses over unnecessary details about the suspects. Releasing information that mimics a Facebook bio with the person’s interests, recent books they read, their favorite broadway show, even their music of choice.

In a recent news post attempting to keep folks updated on the Boston Marathon bomber on the run, TMZ reported that the deceased bomber was a hip hop fan. Also hinting that there is possibly some correlation between what has occurred in Boston and what was bumping in his headphones. Time after time we witness the positive influence that hip hop has had within our borders and outside of them as well. Clearly, the individuals here are at question and their personal motives.

TMZ goes on to say:
“Tamerlan Tsarnaev has an email associated with the website, ‘Real-hiphop.com.’ The site provides information about hip hop artists and upcoming DVD releases. What’s interesting … hip hop lyrics are notoriously violent and often degrading to women.”

Reminiscent of the news surrounding the tragedies in Columbine back in 1999, where it was almost assumed that Marilyn Manson‘s music played a role in persuading the two young men to act violently against their classmates and teachers. Sure, music moves people, audibly and visually stimulates, but the genre you listen to does not necessarily correlate with your desire to take violent actions. After all, Ted Bundy listened to country music and listened to Meet the Press over the radio. Fanatical news only drives us away from the real issues at hand. Let us know what your opinions are on this topic and if you believe it is necessary to entertain such stories.
