As one of the newest additions to the genre, the Carson, CA native is making waves with her latest single, “Best Friend.” She’s currently signed to singer/songwriter Ne-Yo’s label, Compound University Records and Columbia Records. He refers to her as the “New Voice of Women.”

We had a chance to catch up with her to talk about her dream collaboration, upcoming album & more.

Who or What Inspires Your Music?
All of my music comes from personal experiences. Growing up, I used to listen to a lot of Brandy, Aretha Franklin, Mary J. Blige, Lauryn Hill, Anita Baker, and Chaka Khan.

What Is Your Relationship Like With Ne-Yo?
Ne-Yo’s like a big brother to me. He helps with some of my songs. We have nothing but love for each other and he supports me with everything that I do.

Besides Wale, is there anybody that you would collaborate with?
I just did KMEL FM Summer Jam Concert in Oakland with 2 Chainz, Kendrick Lamar, and Trinidad James. I got to collaborate with Marsha Ambrosius but I would love to collaborate with Beyoncé, and Adele and other people.

What are some of your upcoming projects?
I’m getting ready for my debut album and just did an appearance on 106 and Park and performed for the troops in the Army and Navy. I promoted my new single “Best Friend.”

What can your fans expect from your debut album?
For my debut album, I want women to be inspired to be a strong woman, not taking B.S. from anyone, and being in control for yourself.

What advice would you give young girls who want to become a singer?
My advice that I would give them are keep working hard, believe in yourself, and don’t let no one tell you no.
