TrayvonMartinHoodedNew York City rapper Styles P and singer Raheem DeVaughn have come out with a single for the late Trayvon Martin entitled “Trigga Man.”  The song was released today as the nation continues to express discontent over the recent “Not Guilty” verdict regarding the questionable death of the 17-year-old Martin.

The song begins with a speech from President Barack Obama stating “If I had a son he would look like Trayvon” and leads into a chorus by Raheem speaking on behalf of Trayvon.

We caught up with Raheem and asked him what his first reaction was when the verdict was read.

“Everything just came to a stand still, we personally don’t want people to look at this as a race thing.  It’s really just a injustice in justice. How could something like that happen in this day and time? But its not the first time this has happened.  I feel like he was ultimately tried and found not-guilty that night.  I mean Zimmerman is so connected in law enforcement, everything they was supposed to do, they didn’t do,” said Raheem. “So its an outrage, and as an artist this is a responsibility, to speak out. We have that gift to make an impact and I hope more artists decide to make that impact.  I mean I’m not on a level of Jay-Z, but if he were to do something like that, it would make a huge impact.  This whole thing is like ‘wow,’ and I feel for his family.”

Check out the lyrics below:
“Trigga Man”
(Raheem Verse 1)

Dear assassinator, dear murderer did you ever stop to think that I coulda been a teacher, a preacher or played power forward that coulda been a surgeon, a father, a grandpa one day but you, YOU’RE A DREAM KILLER….

(Chorus)

TRIGGA Man Man TRIGGA  Man Man ( with ya 9 Millimeter) tell me. Beyond the color of skin the hoodie on my head did u ever stop to think or was HATRED on ya mind TRIGGA MAN …

(Raheem Verse 2)

I’m supposed to be in the year book. I’m suppose to be king at the prom, maybe even get a full ride for an education. What a price what price to pay for a walk to the store? Left for dead like an animal you’re a COWARD & CRIMINAL ….

(Chorus)

TRIGGA Man Man TRIGGA  Man Man ( with ya 9 Millimeter) tell me. Beyond the color of skin the hoodie on my head did u ever stop to think or was HATRED on ya mind TRIGGA MAN…

(Styles P)

The worlds in a dark place, because of the hatred towards a dark face it ain’t a race card thing because its not a car race. It’s your place & my place, that will make it our place. This hate run deep before the 1800s wear a hoodie & they could kill you that’s the way they wanted. And a man killed a boy that’s the way they hunted & the cops with all the laws that’s way fronted. Homicide is justified because of ya skin tone, if they left us in Africa we woulda been home. Think of that sucka ass TRIGGA man, before you go & kill a black little man. Insane world that the sanes in they gon treat you different if you ain’t got the same skin. And that element is wack & the sad shit about it is the president is black ….

(Chorus)

TRIGGA Man Man TRIGGA  Man Man ( with ya 9 Millimeter) tell me. Beyond the color of skin the hoodie on my head did u ever stop to think or was HATRED on ya mind TRIGGA MAN…
