10 previous contestants ranging back all the way from 2002 have joined together in a lawsuit against the hit Fox TV show American Idol for allegations of racial discrimination. According to the Huffington Post, the ten ex-idol contestants are demanding a total settlement of $250,000,000 or $25,000,000 each.
Lawyers for the group of singers are stating that the Fox network unjustly kicked contestants off of the show due to the color of there skin. The story first came to light when a New York City entertainment attorney, James H. Freeman, wrote a letter in regards to the unethical practice directed to the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. In the letter he expressed concern that the only people who were publicly disqualified in the shows history were African-American.
The big wig attorney also went on to explain that American Idol producers had hired background investigation company’s to dig up dirt on any of the contestants, but only did so on African-American participants. The attorney states that the network used cruel and unusual tactics degrading the contestants and furthermore made them to appear as “violent criminals, liars and sexual deviants…” even though none of the contestants were convicted of a crime.
