Production company Wild Bunch announced plans to complete Spring Breakers 2 in time for the Cannes Film Festival called Spring Breakers: The Second Coming, the upcoming installment is not expected to feature any of the stars from the first film. Wild Bunch’s co-chief Vincent Maraval said “It’s not a direct sequel although there are allusions to some of the characters in the original,”. He also added that there will be a mix of new and old cast in the production.
The sequel will be directed by Helmer Jonas Akerlund and written by Irvine Welsh (Trainspotting). The story line will go something like this: Spring breakers battle with an extreme militant Christian sect that attempts to convert them. Muse Productions, which owns the first film’s concept, will be co-producing the upcoming film with Wild Bunch and Mars Films.
