Iggy Azalea quickly went from the attractive foreign spitter of T.I.‘s potent Grand Hustle camp to Grammy Award-nominated pop star and Hip-Hop’s public enemy #1. She’s spent her time as of late defending her music and stardom from Azealia Banks, Q-Tip, and more, so one would imagine she’s a bit frustrated, especially considering these conversations have overshadowed her music, and the success of her latest album, The New Classic. Still, someone being accused of misappropriating black culture should probably stay clear of comparing herself to two very famous artists who have spent decades being accused of misappropriating black culture, but it’s a free country, right?

In an interview with Vanity Fair, Azalea had this to say in response to whether it was “weird” for an Australian girl to be a rapper.

Well, I never thought it was strange. If you go back to the Rolling Stones and Elvis Presley and Eminem—they’ve all basically done black music. I felt this wasn’t that far from what we’ve seen in music history over and over again.

She went on to say that Macklemore, who, according to the court of public Hip-Hop opinion, “stole” four Grammy Awards away from Kendrick Lamar at the 2014 Grammy Awards, doesn’t face some of the same criticisms she does, and her explanation for that was pretty simple.

So, yes, I think it has 100,000 percent to do with the fact that I have a vagina.
