When San Antonio Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich hired Becky Hammon to be apart of his coaching staff, there were some critics who thought of this as a joke. But it seems like coach Pop is getting the last laugh as his decision on bringing on the former WNBA sensation is paying off heavily. Last night, the San Antonio Spurs defeated a talented Phoenix Suns team 93-90 to win the 2015 NBA Summer League Championship in Las Vegas, Nevada. Leading the way were Summer League MVP point forward Kyle Anderson as he showed flashes of a young but slow version Magic Johnson by putting on a outstanding display of passes and terrific decision making. Nicknamed “SLOMO”, Anderson finished the game with 15 points 7 rebounds and 4 assists. Check out these dope assists by clicking here and here.

Summer league championship game MVP Jonathan Simmons finished with 23 points while Suns point guard Mike James finished with 32 points. But the real MVP of the league has to go to coach Hammon as she made history while potentially open doors to a new wave of coaching phenoms. Besides becoming the first female head coach of the NBA Summer League, the former NY Liberty & San Antonio Stars sharp shooter led the Spurs to a 6-1 win record. Becky was able to prove to fans nationwide that the ladies have a beautiful mind of their own when it comes to coaching the fellas to victory. It’s safe to say if coach Popovich is ready to walk away from the game, the Spurs organization will be alright if Hammon steps in and runs the show. Somebody give this lady a coaching gig. Big shout outs goes out to Becky Hammon for making history on the biggest stage of summer basketball.
