The former UNLV standout was the first player selected in the 2013 NBA Draft by the Cleveland Cavaliers. After continuous lackluster play, Bennett was traded to the Timberwolves along with the following year’s No.1 pick and eventual NBA Rookie of the Year, Andrew Wiggins.
Once the buyout is finalized, the Wolves will place Bennett on waivers, and should he clear, Minnesota will be on the hook for whatever guaranteed amount both sides agree to, which will almost surely reduce the Wolves obligation from the $5.8 million he’s owed for 2015-16.
