Flatbush Zombies Drop New Album, ‘3001: A Laced Odyssey’

The gruff, wild group known as the Flatbush Zombies have released their latest album, 3001: A Laced Odyssey

In January the group released the song “Glorious Thugs,” their redux of the Bone and Biggie cut “Notorious Thugs,” as promo for the upcoming album. Following up that with a leak of the second song on the album “Bounce,” which has already reached almost four millions plays on Soundcloud.

Meechy Darko, Zombie Juice and Erick “The Architech” continue to take fans on an eccentric trip through Hip Hop with their unique voices and flows. A trend continued on this work as their chemistry continues to be showcased.  Their story-telling is vivid and remarkable, which is evident on the song “A Spike Lee Joint,” while utilizing visual battle-type rhymes on cuts like “Good Grief” and “This is It.”

The Zombies styles mesh the qualities of the classic boom-bap era, while maintaining new age influences with the drug references and uptempo cadences. The production contains melodic pianos, snarky synths and erratic guitar leads, but has a melancholy over-tone that leaves it feeling dark. And it works well, creating a sense of cohesiveness throughout the project.
