Anger is not usually associated with Steve Kerr, but last night during the third quarter of Game 1 of the NBA Finals, Kerr got very frustrated and took his emotions out on a helpless clipboard.
While the final score was heavily in the Warriors’ favor, there was a short period during the quarter when they fell behind the Cavaliers. Kerr called a timeout, visibly upset with his team, and his anger boiled over while talking with his coaching staff. He then raised his fist and smashed the clip board, breaking it into several pieces, and did not stop shouting at his assistants.
When asked about the incident in his post-game press conference, Kerr said:
“Destruction tends to ease some of the anger. I try to take it out on a clipboard instead of a player, it’s better that way.”
In the end, the Warriors walked away from Game 1 pretty happy, overcoming a poor performance from Steph Curry and Klay Thompson. From now on the Warriors will certainly listen to every word their coach says, trying to stay on his nice side.
