Sometime last night [Tuesday, July 19] a petition to have the Ku Klux Klan (KKK) classified as a Terrorist Organization created by a user named “P.S.” reached its goal of 100,000 signatures.
The petition was started on July 10 and quickly gained support in part thanks to Sza who sent out this tweet:

The petition describes the cruel history of the KKK that dates back to 1865 and the textbook definition of terrorism—which is defined as the use of violence and intimidation in pursuit of political aims. Pointing out that “if ISIS or ISIL is labeled a terrorist group for their acts, then surely the KKK fit the clear description of a terrorist.”
While the current 101,229 signatures means that the White House must review the petition, it does not mean that it will be accepted. A similar one was created last year and denied but like Aaliyah taught us, if at first you don’t succeed, dust yourself off and try again. You can still sign the petition here.
