Erykah Badu released her album, Live, over the weekend 20 years ago (does that make you feel old?).

Live quickly went double platinum with the radio hit “Tyrone.” It includes cover songs by Chaka Khan “Stay,” Roy Ayers “Searchin,” and many more old school hit singles. The album was nominated for Best R&B Album of the Year while the “Tyrone” track was nominated for Best Female R&B Vocal Performance at the 1999 Grammy Awards.

‘Mama’s Gun’ was released on this day 17 years ago. It’s her second studio album that has a neo-soul type of vibe. You know the singles “Bag Lady,” which was top of the Billboard top charts and was nominated for two awards at the Grammy’s. The album reached double platinum after two months it has been released. Rolling Stone has put the album as their top 10 pick.
