Harlem’s own Teddy Riley is one of the most prolific songwriters/producers in the history of popular music. As the creator of “New Jack Swing,” his accolades and accomplishments are endless. He introduced the world via his production and songwriting to Keith Sweat, Guy, Wreckx n Effect, and BLACKstreet. Riley discovered the Neptunes and Timbaland. He produced hits for Michael Jackson, Janet Jackson, Bobby Brown, SWV, Doug E. Fresh and Slick Rick, and so many others. His influence is heavy over modern music especially in the sound, look, and style of Bruno Mars latest project. Now Riley is bringing the sound that created back to the Apollo Theatre.
On December 9th, Teddy Riley will present the “King and Queens of New Jack Swing” at the Apollo Theatre. Along with Riley, the lineup includes performances from Keith Sweat, BLACKstreet, Doug E. Fresh, Guy, MC Lyte, Kool Moe Dee, DJ D Nice and more.
The event will celebrate the native son of Harlem but also highlight “New Jack Swing,” the genre that made him famous over 30 years ago.
The concert will homage to Riley’s impact on Black music, the signature sound he created in the projects of Harlem, and the scores of artist that were influenced by his innovative sound.
