Born Inga Marchand in Brooklyn, New York, Foxy remains a fixture on the Hip Hop scene. She was a key figure of the last memorable era of Hip Hop as one of the few female artists on Def Jam and the first lady of legendary supergroup, The Firm.
Launching her music career at the tender age of 16, Foxy found success almost overnight by appearing on LL Cool J’s “I Shot Ya” and most notably, Jay-Z’s “Ain’t No N***a.” Her remarkable cadence and flow on her solo debut,” Ill Nana” made her a force to be reckoned with and went on to go platinum. She upped the ante with her Firm collaboration rhyming alongside rap giants Nas, AZ and Nature releasing a classic album that went gold.
Though she has made these musical accomplishments, Foxy Brown is also remembered for having a temper and quite a few legal troubles. Assaults, confrontations with law enforcement, and even jail stints are part of Fox’s history as well. From beef with other female MCs like Lil Kim and Jacki-O to conflicts with everyday people like hotel maids and manicurists, this one of a kind rap vixen still represents BK to the fullest.
