So far Mike Woodson has done a pretty good job with the Knicks leading them to a 16-6 record since Mike D’Antoni resigned. Despite his success Woodson’s job is still in jeopardy. According to RacineSportsZone.com, the Knicks already have a plan in place.
“If the New York Knicks don’t advance beyond the first round of the playoffs, I’m hearing they’ll make a major — repeat, major — push to lure legendary coach Phil Jackson out of retirement.
With money being no object, the scuttlebutt is the Knicks brass may offer the “Zen Master” a four-year, $50 million deal.”
Woodson does have a few major people on his side. The Knicks have promoted Glen Grunwald to permanent executive VP/ general manager. Grunwald and Woodson played three seasons together at Indiana and are said to have a pretty good relationship. Woodson also received a big endorsement from Carmelo Anthony who said he wanted Woodson to return as the coach next season. Barring a major collapse during the playoffs its likely Woodson will be promoted from interim to permanent head coach. Phil Jackson would no doubt be a heavier favorite but he has reiterated his desire to remain retired many times, but the tune of $50 million could bring him back.
