The premiere of “The Art of Rap” was held last night at the TriBeCa Film Festival, and was hosted by none other than the OG himself and director of the documentary Ice-T. The Art of Rap is a film that provides a more in depth look at the art of MCing, from battling in the streets to earn respect to the creative process that some of your favorite artist go thru in order to compose a song. Ice-T serves as the host of the documentary which begins in the Mecca of Hip-Hop, New York and features MC’s like Grandmaster Caz, Nas, Treach, Marly Marl, Kool Keith and more speaking on their rhyme schemes and even providing some dope freestyles. After meeting with a few of his rapping friends in New York, Ice-T travels to the city of Detriot to link up with Eminem and Royce Da 5’9.” Eminem spits a freestyle that in my opinion, was the best of the best in the documentary. Ice-T makes his final stop in California and meets up with more of his rapping buddies. He links with Rass Kas, WC, KRS-One, Dr.Dre, Snoop and others. Personally, the artist with the most impactful message of the documentary had to be Snoop Dogg. It’s a great message for any rapper thats coming up. The film was excellent and had a dope soundtrack to go along with it. If your a fan of Hip-Hop, a rapper on the come up, or someone thats intrigued with the Hip Hop culture than this is definitely a documentary that you would want to see. The film is set to hit theaters nationwide on June 15th.
