Hip-Hop has extended into all nationalities, age groups, point-of-views and demographics, and the Disney Channel Original Movie, “Let It Shine” proves it. With 5.7 million viewers last Friday, June 15th, “Let It Shine” has become the #1 TV Movie of the Year.
The movie re-imagines the 1837 play, “Cyrano de Bergerac,” by placing it in the world of hip-hop, gospel and rap music. Tyler James Williams, the lead, plays an integral role in the movie and truly shows his rhythm and ability to both act and rap.
Although hip-hop critics may be disappointed that the genre has gone commercial, “Let It Shine” truly shows the versatility and positive effect hip-hop has on the world. Music has and always will be a positive force, and it’s refreshing to see the youth participate in the hip-hop movement.
