Coachella Music & Arts Festival is up against a wall with a new proposed tax increase.
The proposed tax increase will effect the future of the festival with the possibility of a 5 to 10 percent tax on any events that gross more than 2,500 attendees. Goldenvoice the company in charge of producing the event is having second thoughts about the location of the event, as well as possibly taking a year off. In an interview with The Desert Sun, Paul Tollett, President of Goldenvoice stated, “if the tax initiative of putting $4million to $6 million onto Coachella gets on the ballot…we’re going to take off 2014; 2015 we’ll be at a new facility outside of Indio.”
Goldenvoice would avoid implementing the tax hike on its concertgoers. It would be roughly be $36 per ticket which would cost Coachella upwards of $6 million dollars.
