Debt, child support, and failed businesses have hit the Rocafella founder in the pockets
Dame Dash is in the headlines again and no, it’s not for a Rocafella reunion.
According to a statement written by Dash in response to a lawsuit filed against the 42 year old former Roc La Familia music mogul, he is “currently several months behind in paying my personal bills” and “over $100,000 behind in rent for the only home in which I live and at risk of being evicted.”
The once co- owner of the multi million dollar Rocafella label and clothing line has been facing eminent financial hardships ever since he split with Jay-Z in 2004. A decade followed by failed business deals, divorce, and a ridiculous tax debt has left Dame Dash in monetary shambles.
He was in Manhattan Supreme Court on Thursday to fight a charge of ignoring a 2008 lawsuit from a garment industry lender seeking payback for a $237,078 loan.
According to his court filing, Dash faces possible criminal prosecution for non-payment of taxes in New Jersey. Documents indicate Dash also owes more than $2 million in taxes to New York state, and he conceded owing federal income taxes.
2008 began his downward spiral,when he lost his SUV after missing his $715 monthly payment. In 2010, Dame’s two TriBeCa lofts went into foreclosure, leaving him with a $7 million debt in mortgage payments. He’s paid nearly $20K in debts via garnished checks, pays $24K quarterly for child support to his ex-wife Rachel Roy, and an additional $4341.10 in child support for his son Christian.
