3. Lil Wayne To Emmitt Till’s Family

Lil Wayne’s word play has come under fire before but it wasn’t until his collaboration with Future on the remix to “Karate Chop” that the YMCMB rapper truly offended someone. In his verse, Weezy spit the lyric “beat the p**sy up like Emmitt Till” referencing the 14-year-old African American boy from Mississippi who was beaten to death for whistling at a white woman in 1955. After the family pushed to make Epic Records remove the line from the song and to have the rapper dropped from his Mountain Dew deal, Mr. Carter wrote a letter to the family apologizing for his words.

“It has come to my attention that lyrics from my contribution to a fellow artist’s song has deeply offended your family. As a father myself, I cannot imagine the pain that your family has had to endure. I would like to take a moment to acknowledge your hurt, as well as the letter you sent to me via your attorneys.”
