4. Math Hoffa vs. J.Dose
What: There was a lot drama behind this battle. The infamous viral video became one of the most watched battle rap videos of all time: one guy punches another in the middle of a battle. What is often glossed over is how dope the battle was shaping up to be prior to the punch. Dose, came with crippling, aggressive bars, and won the crowd completely before he got hit. Then- a punch. Not longer after, Dose is walking around known as the guy who got punched in battle- and he gets shot. His brother is shot and killed, and he’s left nearly paralyzed. Dose disappears into obscurity. Hoffa on the other hand went on to become a battle rap super star. He’s faced pretty much all of the biggest names in battle rap besides Murda Mook. This re-match came as a surprise, the outcome impossible to predict.
Why: In many ways, Math continued to clown the much smaller Dose. He also had perhaps his best performance ever with strong bars precise delivery. However, Dose’s first round was one of the best rounds in battle history. It started slow and he had to overcome an extremely unforgiving, audience. One voice in the crowd seemed to loudly sigh after every word the guy said. Yet, once Dose built up steam he went on a massacre that extended to the end of the round. There’s so many double meaning lines in this battle it’s worth a few watches. Dose never quite regained that first round energy but his second and third had some great moments.
Highlight: “You get a box, I ain’t talkin’ in the ring, I got a bullet in my neck, this n**** talkin’ about a swing? When you was making blogs about what we did at the gym, I was trying to walk and use my fingers again. Rumbles ain’t detrimental, I’ve been mixing since ten. It’s still gutter boy (ball) that’s without hitting the pen (pin.) So go ahead and start swinging again, I’ll put a price on ya head, tag on ya toe, cut your living expense. These other rappers ain’t give him an inch. I’m in the same spot that Calicoe was at, and I wish this n**** would cuz it’s gettin’ intense. You don’t wanna scrap, I’m a let a hundred clap, to ya family tree I’m like a lumber jack. And I don’t know why gun is strapped, you ain’t Buccin no more, you’re Warren Dunn and I’m running back.” – J.Dose Round 1.
Winner: This one is hotly debated. Whoever people think won they feel very strongly about it. Dose for lyricism. Math for presence.
