Vietnam sentences 30 to death for trafficking heroin

Twenty-one men and nine women were sentenced to death for their roles in trafficking heroin in Vietnam on Monday.

The 20-day trial involved the largest amount of defendants in a single trial in the country’s court history.

Human rights groups have questioned the fairness of Vietnam’s criminal justice system and the country switched from firing squad to lethal injection amidst humanitarian concerns in 2011.
