Dr. Dre isn’t the only one issuing out lawsuits these days
So So Def CEO and founder, Jermaine Dupri Mauldin, was hit with a civil lawsuit by his former Dieniahmar Music business partner, Eddie Weathers, on Jan. 13, according to Radar Online.Â
In accordance with the legal documentation that was filed in a Georgia courthouse, Weathers declares that the pair were supposed to share the company’s profits 50/50 when they went into business in 2005 and that he was left out in the dark about a merger deal that initially cost him hundreds of thousands of dollars in royalties.
When Dupri signed a co-publishing deal with EMI Music back in 2006, Weathers claimed he was left out and was told by Dupri that “he was the sole owner in Dieniahmar when in fact he was not.”
According to court documents, all royalties that were paid by EMI Music were sent directly to Dupri and his business manager between 2006-2013, with Weathers never receiving a cut.
Though Weathers recalls having received a check from Dupri’s new business manager on April 11, 2008 in the sum of $275,752.97, he added that the payments came to a halt when Dupri hired yet a new business manager, Willie Carter, in 2011.
Upon announcing his plan to sell Dieniahmar Music to EMI Music last year, Weathers claims he was promised a $238,000 cut out of it from Dupri, of which he only received $10,000.
“To date, Dieniahmar, Mauldin, and Carter have failed to pay Weathers the $250,000 and all other monies due and owed to Weathers,” the legal court documents read.
Weathers is seeking $1 million in damages.
