The drama continues

Young Thug‘s label situation, which the industry has become increasingly fascinated with since the Atlanta high-pitched rapping sensation blew up off the success of his “Danny Glover” and “Stoner” singles, has taken yet another twisty turn, with the introduction of a totally new party.

If you remember, back in February, we reported that Thug was fielding offers from Future‘s Freebandz label, which had allegedly offered the “Stoner” rapper 1.5 million dollars for his talents, but that deal was never finalized, and eventually, progress on it went from minimal to unreported.

Soon after, during his time in All-Star weekend, Thug appeared to have finally found a new, official home, at Lil’ Wayne & Birdman‘s YMCMB label. At a New Era party in New Orleans, Thug announced to the crowd that he had officially signed to Cash Money, and re-iterated it in an interview with Complex News at SxSW, but several reports continued to indicate that despite Thug’s yearning to be down with Birdman and his Rich Gang conglomerate, he never signed on the YMCMB dotted line.

Then, in a bizarre twist, a Buzzfeed journalist went poking and prodding around the entire industry to find out whatever happened to Thug’s #hiTunes album, and found out that in summation, the ATLien signed a faulty record deal that left creative control of his output to a little known division of Atlantic Records that only benefited Thug by way of a $15,000 advance. It was mentioned in the article that Atlantic Records reserved the right to shift Thug’s contract to Lyor Cohen‘s new label venture, 300, which is a division of Atlantic, to get things moving on new music from Young Thug, who was reportedly refusing to cooperate because of his discontent with his impotent labels situation.

Today, as DJ Drama–who was recently named an A&R at Atlantic Records–visited Power 105.1/Revolt TV’s The Breakfast Club morning show, he divulged to Charlamagne Tha God, Angela Yee & DJ Envy–with whom Drama hasn’t always seen eye-to-eye–that Young Thug is officially signed to Lyor Cohen’s new label, and is merely being managed by Birdman and company.
