In an unexpected twist, sneakers were the highlight of the party.
Last night The Source was in attendance at Bacardi’s Fusion Lounge, as they introduced their new alcoholic beverage, Bacardi Mango Fusion. With DJ Envy hosting & Just Blaze blasting out the tunes, the night turned out to be a huge success- some mingled & danced around as they waited for their customized Bacardi t-shirts, while most flocked to the bar to try the fruity Mango Fusion drink specials.
There was one drink in particular that caught my eye, however…The Sneakerhead. I was intrigued. Why is there a beverage here that describes a lover of the kick game to the tee?
Once you scoped out the entire area-which happened to be on the chic Tribeca Rooftop– the reason for the Sneakerhead became clear as day. Taking up almost a fourth of the lounge’s space was a sneaker haven, compiled of rare, never-before-seen samples, customs and extremely expensive kicks that one could only dream of seeing in one place. It was no surprise when I realized that Sneaker Pimps was behind all of this. From a pair of the Watch The Throne Lebron 9 (which I learned were made just for the families of Kanye & Jay Z, with only 72 pairs made, ever), to the JBF snakeskin-custom kicks designed specifically for the launch of Bacardi’s Mango Fusion, it all became a lot to take in (especially when the liquor kicked in).
Conversations turned from drinks to sneakers all night, as people took shots and discussed all of the Doernbechers aligning one wall, while other groups flocked to see the entire “What The…?” sneaker collection on another. The Air Jordan 1 “Banned”, the Foamposite One “ParaNorman”, & the Nike SB Dunk Low “Paris” were all in attendance, receiving more attention than the attractive Bacardi girls (more or less). The unexpected, fun things to do at the event truly made the night one worth remembering.
