New Threads: The Decades Hat Company

hall_snap_1aCan you explain the idea behind the Machine Gun Funk design? How did Biggie fit into the picture? Same with the Bad Moon Rising & Credence Clearwater Revival.

Matt: Machine Gun Funk is a reference to Biggie in name only. The design of the hat itself wasn’t influenced by Biggie, per say. Same with Bad Moon Rising. It’s not like we said “Let’s make a Credence hat!” It was part of a Halloween collection, it has a Werewolf on it, werewolves transform when there’s a full moon… It’s a pop culture reference more than a dedication.
Brooks: Idk I might have said let’s make a Creedence hat. I’m from the south.

For the following occasions, describe the kind of hat you would recommend: first date, chilling with the homies, meeting with a new retailer, seeing your ex-girlfriend.

Matt: 1. People still go on a “first dates”? 2. Huh? 3. A hat that isn’t dirty? 4. Who cares?
Brooks: 1. Something subtle 2. Something different 3. A sample 4. Decades Up Yours snapback

What kind of design or material for hats do you see starting the next big wave?

Matt: We are going to continue doing what we do. We have and will continue to use and experiment with a wide range of fabrics and styles.
Brooks: We enjoy pushing ourselves when it comes to design. You could also assume for the most part that we won’t be doing exactly what everyone else is doing.

What’s next for The Decades?

Brooks: Currently about to release our Spring 14 collection and prep for summer release. We have always been interested in expanding our product selection so you’ll start to see different kinds of clothing being integrated into our lines. We also have several collab projects in the works with really respectable brands that we believe will further solidify our presence in the industry.
