10 Years Ago Today, Derek Fisher Hit The Infamous .4 Shot

Lakers v Spurs

Game-changer, literally.

The series was tied 2-2, and the San Antonio Spurs were looking to go up 3-2 against a feisty Lakers team, and it appeared–thanks to a ridiculously good fadeaway shot from Tim Duncan–that they were comfortably headed for that one game lead, until the ball was inbounded to Derek Fisher on the following play.

The shot was counted as good, the Lakers went up by 3-2, and eventually beat the Spurs on their way to the NBA Finals, where they were put down by Chauncey Billups and the Detroit Pistons by a series count of 4-1, but no one will ever forget that shot from the 5-time NBA Champion point guard. It was this shot that prompted the official NBA ruling, that it is legally impossible for a player to get a shot off in less than .4 seconds.
