Jonathan Simkai showed a very cohesive collection for this season that is on trend with the cut outs and the netting he used underneath some of his pieces. We were on the scene at Milk Studios at MADE Fashion Week.
The pieces ranged from being very dainty and feminine to more edgy and dangerous. He created the difference with the cut outs in his more daring dresses with a mesh netting underneath to show some skin. The more feminine dainty looks were made with a soft blush and white color that were very form fitting. Many of the looks had matching separates which is something many designers are showing this season on the runway. However, worn separately, many of the separates shown in Simkai’s presentation can easily be switched out and worn with others in the collection. This combination of dangerously chic and wearable separates speak to the woman that wears his clothes.
His collection was made possible by G-shock, MADE, Maybelline and TIGI. We were invited to the presentation by CATWALK by TIGI. Read on to see how you can get the look from the show.
How-To:
Mist hair with CATWALK by TIGI Fast Fixx Style Prep and create a center part, tucking hair behind the ears
Next, section the hair horizontally at the back of the head and spray CATWALK by TIGI Bodifying Spray at the roots and on the surface of hair
Blow dry hair, focusing on collapsing the hair flat against the head throughout, as you move through each section towards the top of the head
Using a small-barreled curler, curl random half-inch sections towards the ends of the hair creating a slight texture. Set the shape in place with sectioning clips
Once set, remove clips and finish with a spritz of CATWALK by TIGI Session Series Work It Hairspray
We also spoke with the lead make up artist at Maybelline.
What was your inspiration for the makeup today?
Really we wanted a good girl that’s a little naughty but still is a good girl, so its like a good meets bad. We didn’t want anything to compete with the clothes because the clothes have cutouts and strong angles, so we want the girls fairly natural with a bold brow. Its about healthy looking skin so we use Maybelline Dream Wonder Fluid Touch Foundation, and concealer, when you look at them, they don’t look overly done up, natural, very bold brow, and that’s where the edginess comes through and the lashes are curled with only mascara on the top. We used Maybelline Pumped Up Mascara, and that makes her feel a little bit grown up, a slight dew, with Baby Lips, and the lips we used a tiny bit of pink.
Tips for a bold brow?
Maybelline has amazing brow products that are coming out, this is the Master Shape Brow Pencil, its very waxy formulation so it’ll stay, which a lot of people want. It also comes conveniently with a brush on the end. The Brow Drama is genius. The formulation is tinted, they come in three colors, literally I put a lot on, and I fill in the spaces, it holds it in place so it will harden almost. It’s like starch, so it won’t move.
