This is one of the more comedic things you’ll see all week
The Philadelphia 76ers have been pretty bad since the departure of Andre Iguodala, who was their best player for several seasons, but this season, they’re just abysmal. Since the 2012-2013 season, their win total has gone from 34 (good for 9th place in the Eastern Conference) to 19 (2013-2014, 14th place) to zero (2014-2015, dead last), leaving the front office and coaching staff searching for answers. It’s also left another group of people scratching their heads: Papa Johns customers.
Up until yesterday, The Philadelphia 76ers had a pretty cool promotion going with local Papa Johns locations. When the 76ers win, everybody gets 50% off of online orders the following day. Win, win for everybody right? You, as a 76er fan, gets half off your pizza, and Papa Johns gets so much business they don’t even notice they’re practically giving food away. Well, since the 76ers can’t stop losing, neither can Papa Johns.
So, to save their seasons, the 76ers and Papa Johns decided to make a small change to the qualifications of the promotion. All the 76ers have to do is score 90, and the following day, customers can use the promotion. Sure, that’ll bring lots of business back to Papa Johns, but setting that as an achievement is pretty pathetic for the 76ers, especially considering they’re only one of two teams not averaging 90 points per game. The other? The Oklahoma City Thunder, who are missing two of the NBA’s Top 10 scorers due to injury, but still manage to average closer to 90 PPG than the 76ers.
