Yet another prosecutor looks the other way at police brutality caught on tape

Seattle prosecutors have decided that Seattle police officer Adley Shepherd will not be charged for punching 23-year old Miyekko Durden-Bosley in the face during an arrest.

In the incident, which was captured by Shepherd’s dashboard camera–as seen in the video clip above–Durden-Bosley was allegedly intoxicated and abusive towards Shepherd, sparking the police officer’s retaliation. While Shepherd tried to get Durden-Bosley in the back of a police car, the 23-year old woman allegedly swung at and kicked at him, which is when Shepherd decided to retaliate. However, rather than using appropriate force in an attempt to restrain Durden-Bosley, Shepherd unloaded a punishing blow to the woman’s face, which subdued her, but also broke her eye-socket.

What’s interesting is that the County prosecutor’s views on the matter differ greatly from that of the city prosecutor’s. It was the County prosecutor’s decision to not charge Shepherd, whereas the City prosecutor Pete Holmes admits that based off his review of the case, this is a situation that “undoubtedly met the felony standard,” yet no charges will be filed.

Federal prosecutors will review the case and the decision in the near future.
