Heartwarming footage from Ye’s rapping with his best running mate

One of Kanye West‘s great moments as an artist came in 2005, when he released one of his emost popular records, “Hey Mama,” for his multi-platinum, Grammy Award-winning sophomore album, Late Registration. The song was written, recorded and released before Ye’s mother, Donda West, passed away in 2007.

Today, footage has surfaced of Kanye and his mother rapping along to the song, thanks to Fader. Prior to their live performance of “Hey Mama,” the mother-son duo can be seen rapping a verse that Kanye had apparently written, but never released. Mrs. West liked it so much she was able to rap most of it without error, and she questioned her son repeatedly as to why nothing much ever came of it.

The real tearjerker comes at about the 1:30 mark, when the Wests stand up and began sing-rapping “Hey Mama.” Just, beautiful. Watch the footage above.
