The Paley Center for Media in New York City has announced the plan for a tribute to African-American achievements in television and paying homage to several decades of monumental accomplishments achieved in dramas, comedies, news, talks, sports, music, and variety.  Special guests and presenters include Mara Brock Akil, Anthony Anderson, Diahann Carroll, Lee Daniels, Julius Erving, Gwen Ifill, Wynton Marsalis, Phylicia Rashad, Michael Strahan, Cicely Tyson, Larry Wilmore, Oprah Winfrey, and many more.  The award ceremony will take place on Wednesday, May 13, 2015.  The tribute will also feature industry pioneers who have made a major impact on television and American culture.  With the 50th anniversary of the Voting Rights Act in which the media played a huge impact on the passing of it as well as the 35th anniversary of Black Entertainment Television(BET), this event will also showcase how television has effected society.
