After leading the Pelicans to their first playoff appearance in years coach, Monty Williams has been fired after 5 seasons. New Orleans went 45-37 and claimed the last playoff spot in the West Conference this past season. They were eventually swept by the Golden State Warriors in the first found. ESPN’s Brian Windhorst reported that Pelicans executive Mickey Loomis stated.
“Making a decision like this is never easy and is never done hastily, especially when you are dealing with a person of Monty Williams’ character. We thanked Monty for the tremendous work and commitment he made to our organization and development of our young players, specifically Anthony Davis, (Loomis).”
Williams went 173-221 with two playoff appearances in five seasons with the team. He had one year left on his deal. Coaches that the team might be interested in include Scott Brooks and Tom Thibodeau.
