Retro Alexander Wang
Alexander Wang, New York’s own minimalist FIT bred designer, is trying to resurrect older womenswear styles. The brand’s tenth anniversary calls for a celebration, and the 31 year old fashion icon plans to celebrate with a retrospect sale. Allowing the fans to decide which styles are hot, Wang is utilizing the platform of Instagram, using an anniversary collection of the brand’s website to gauge the popularity of certain pieces. The brand’s Instagram page is lined with short clips of vintage women’s wear runway footage; one model is seen draped Autumn/Winter 2011 glitter drainpipe jeans, another in a Spring 2008 Blazer. To select which look you want to be a part of the collection, hit up the “10 years of Wang” section of the designer’s website. The top chosen pieces will be re-released in a special capsule collection set to appear on store shelves in September.
The celebration for the designer comes at a time when rampant speculation of his departure from his current position as creative director of massive fashion house Balenciaga. According to WWD, Wang will still be cooking up the Spring/Summer 2016 collection for Balenciaga for Paris Fashion Week this September, but the house may see new leadership soon after. Whether the rumors are true or false, Wang’s brand reach is massive and design image is on point. With a net worth of approximately $70 million the #WANG 10 anniversary collection looks to continue Wang’s reign as fashion ruler.
