Funniest movie ever. Hands down.
The newest movie, Trainwreck, written and starring Amy Schumer, is a story about a woman, Amy (Amy Schumer), who had the idea that monogamy isn’t realistic beaten into her head from a young age. And she took that idea to the bank her entire life seeing as she is shown to not be able to be in any sort of committed relationship. In other words, sex is her game and she is against romance entirely. However, as much as her life seems to be perfect, Amy’s life is somewhat in shambles. It isn’t until she is assigned to write a profile about a charming and successful sports doctor, Aaron Conners (Bill Hader), where she finds herself falling head over heels for him and breaking all of her “dating” rules. It is with this that Amy’s life turns upside down and she has to come to terms with which life she wants, the life of a sex crazed maniac who only cares about herself, or a caring and loving girlfriend.
Trainwreck is anything but a wreck. It is safe to say that this movie may be the best comedy of the summer, and maybe even the year. With Amy Schumer as the writer, it was obvious that she would make herself a character in which she would excel in. And her character was basically a slightly mellowed down version of her standup comedy persona. Amy in this movie was edgy, over the top, overtly sexual, had a lot of subtlety to her joke delivery, and just a little batshit crazy. Amy Schumer is one of the most talented comedians of this age and she incorporated a lot of her style of comedy within this movie, and seeing as she is such a huge success right now, it is clear to see why this movie is such a hit too. But everyone knows that Amy is a funny person, but in this movie she showed her range as an actor too from crying on cue to having a heartfelt moment to seeming very genuine and sincere. Also, Bill Hader’s performance was great too. Although he played a secondary character behind Amy, he had a lot of lasting and memorable moments and really made this character his own. The chemistry between both Bill and Amy was great and really helped in making each joke land properly.
Not many bad things can be said about this movie. All in all, this is the type of movie for anyone who wants to have a good laugh. This movie has various styles of comedy in it ranging from sexual comedy to physical comedy to punny comedy so there is something for everyone no matter what you comedy taste is like. Even though this movie seems like a regular old romcom where the girl doesn’t believe in love and in the end falls in love, it isn’t cheesy in any way. There is a lot more comedy within this movie when compared to romance and the only way to really describe the genre of this film is to say that a giant comedy monster ate a little romance animal and even though the comedy monster is so big, the little bit of romance is still there in the comedy monster’s stomach. To sum up, watch this movie, you won’t regret it. Trainwreck hits theaters on Friday, July 17th.
