Whoever said words don’t sting in a sport such as Tennis is in for a rude awakening!? In the verbal match between Nick and Stanislas, it’s One-love, Kyrigios
Yesterday, the tennis world has been the talk of the media as one player have decided to pull a “Kevin Garnett-Honey Nut Cheerios” move to get inside the head of his opponents. Tennis player Nick Kyrgios was going up against Stanislas Wawrinka at the Montreal Masters. After losing a thrilling first set, Kyrgios was approaching the direction of where Wawrinka is setting at and uttered “Kokkinakis banged your girlfriend, sorry to tell you that mate.” Nick continued with the taunting by saying Wawrinka’s girlfriend was “banging an 18-year-old”. Wawrinka eventually had to withdraw from the match after he was losing 0-4 in the deciding set. After the match was over with, Kyrigios was hit with a fine by the ATP. He later went on Facebook to issue an apology
“I would like to take this opportunity to apologise for the comments I made during the match last night vs Stan Wawrinka. My comments were made in the heat of the moment and were unacceptable on many levels. In addition to the private apology I’ve made, I would like to make a public apology as well. I take full responsibility for my actions and regret what happened.”
Stanislas Wawrinka turned to social media to rant about the disappointment in his opponent conduct during the tennis match. He went on to say this:
So disappointing to see a fellow athlete and colleague be so disrespectful in a way I could never even imagine. What was said I wouldn’t say to my worst enemy. To stop [sic] so low is not only unacceptable but also beyond belief.
There is no need for this kind of behaviour on or off the court and I hope the governing body of this sport does not stand for this and stands up for the integrity of this sport that we have worked so hard to build.
